Motivating Yourself to Start Spring Cleaning
Stuart Mosley No Comments

With many people across the UK staying at home this Spring, it’s important to make the most of your home.

When we’re spending a lot more time indoors, we should keep our households in good condition, especially in the current climate. Spring cleaning offers a great opportunity to deep clean your home and also to organise and declutter your space.

If you do not wish to declutter some of your belongings, a simple bit of organising can still make a significant difference. Whether it’s organising your wardrobe or kitchen utensils, you’ll find that the newly organised space is much more refreshing after having spent the past few months in lockdown.

Should I Start Spring Cleaning?

As we’re beginning to see the lockdown restrictions ease across the UK, it’s important that we keep our health and well-being as our top priorities.

Bacteria and germs still exist in our homes and we need to be regularly cleaning commonly touched surfaces such as the kitchen, bathroom, living room, and bedrooms. By staying on top of this, you can reduce the spread of bacteria and germs which helps to maintain a healthy immune system.

When you deep clean your home, you’ll be reducing the amount of dirt and dust which will benefit your respiratory health and reduce the likelihood of triggering allergies.

How Do I Motivate Myself?

Although deep cleaning your house may seem like a daunting task, when you break down the list of tasks and figure out which bit of cleaning takes priority, it does become easier to manage. There have been studies that show the great benefits of decluttering your spaces. Not only does it boost your mood but it also helps with productivity and enables you to focus better.

Here are some of the ways you can make Spring Cleaning more enjoyable:

Start with your wardrobe – Your wardrobe is one of the most commonly accessed areas and it makes sense to keep your wardrobe clean and organised. Start by decluttering your wardrobe and pick out clothes that no longer fit or you no longer want to keep. You can then put these into bags and take them to your local charity shop once they re-open. Once your wardrobe is looking roomier, you may wish to organise your clothes so that you know where everything is.

Spend time cleaning outdoors – Now that the sunny weather is beginning to show, you may want to spend some time cleaning outside. Not only can you enjoy the nice weather, but it will also help maintain the exterior of your home. You could wash the windows, clean the patio, remove unwanted weeds, and clean up the old barbeque in time for the summer weather.

Take breaks and reward yourself – If you’ve organised a list of spring cleaning tasks, then you can tick the list off as you go. Be sure to take breaks every now and then to avoid burnout and to give yourself a rest. Once you’ve taken care of all of these tasks, you can relax knowing that your home will be in top shape for enjoying the warmer weather.
