With Christmas just around the corner, everyone is gearing up for slightly different festive plans this year due to the pandemic. Many families are deciding to stay at home and spend Christmas together as individual households in order to keep friends and family safe.
Although Christmas may not be exactly the same as last year, there are still lots of fun and enjoyable festive activities that you can do while maintaining social distancing.
To help make your Christmas as fun as it can be this year, we have provided a few ideas below that you could consider.
Enjoy a Full Breakfast
Treat yourself and your family to a hearty Christmas breakfast! While everyone may be looking forward to opening Christmas presents on the morning, preparing a delicious and festive breakfast is sure to help keep the festive joy throughout the day.
To go that extra mile, some may want to prepare the breakfast the night before and cook it in the oven on the morning. Whilst others may just want to create a small brunch on the day. Some of the classic favourites include Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon and chives, spiced bread, Belgian waffles, or even sweet and simple cinnamon rolls.
The Gift of Giving
Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without some gifts! Make sure your loved ones know that they are in your thoughts this Christmas even though you may be far away, by sending them a gift. You may wish to create your own gift or even a hamper basket as personalised gifts are often more meaningful as they contain your personal touch and thoughts. If you can’t think of any gift ideas or the person is too hard to buy for, then chocolates and treats are always a safe bet.
Online Christmas Party
It’s difficult to imaging Christmas without a party with all of your friends and family. However, what if you could still have a party with your loved ones this year in a safe way? There is a variety of ways to stay in touch with your loved ones without needing to meet them face to face, thanks to technology.
Applications such as Zoom, Skype, Facetime, Houseparty, and many more are capable of letting you host video calls with all of your family members. You could even host online Christmas quizzes, Christmas Bingo, or even just catching up with loved ones over a festive playlist. Christmas may be slightly different this year, but there are still safe ways to keep in touch with friends and family. Treat Yourself to a Christmas Movie Night
After a busy day of fun and festivities, the perfect way to wind down at the end of the day is spending time with family and enjoying the classic Christmas favourites. Grab some sweet treats and a hot drink, snuggle up, and relive the Christmas movies with your family.
Local Christmas Events
If you’re not much of an indoors person and were thinking of spending Christmas outside, then there may be COVID-safe festive events in your local area. Check your town’s website to see if any socially distanced festive ceremonies are happening this year. It’s important to remember to keep everyone safe during these times if you do wish to meet up with friends and family. Check which restrictions are in place for your area and follow government advice to have a safe Christmas this year.
Current rules state that you can form a Christmas bubble from the 23rd December to the 27th December, depending on which tier of restrictions you are in. The Christmas bubble enables you to spend time with family over the festive period in private homes.
However, you should know that everyone will be responsible for taking precautions to prevent spreading or catching viruses. Learn more about the Christmas bubble here.
